It begins too slowly and, even worse, is drenched from beginning to end in an awkward veneer of moralising, as Relic attempt to justify the fact you're playing as an army "not as bad as the Germans because they're on our side" by putting you in the shoes of a dissident aghast at the Soviet's shocking brutality. The fact the Soviets are now playable is the main addition here, though, and also the most disappointing.ĬoH2's campaign does not live up the standards set by the original game and its expansions. Snowstorms will slow your infantry and even kill them if they're out in the open too long, while frozen rivers can be blown open to block passage or sink enemy forces. The Eastern Front was a brutal theatre of war, and the weather in this game wants to make sure it has more than a cosmetic effect. Seven years is a long time between wars, though, and now that we have a sequel, people are expecting a lot from this game, the first time Company of Heroes has ditched Western Europe for the Eastern Front. There was no resource collecting, no tank rushes, none of the hallmarks of other games that look like they're about a clash of armies but are really little but mouse-driven sprint races.īuilt around the concepts of cover and directional fire, suppression and morale, you had to use actual battlefield strategies if you wanted to succeed, and seven years on (the game was released in 2006), the formula is so perfect that it remains unchallenged, even by developer Relic's semi-related Dawn of War series.
COMPANY OF HEROES 2 REVIEWS FOR FREE
you should've received from the beginning, I think? Dunno, I have received it for free so I don't give a heck, lmao.Company of Heroes was a game for true armchair generals. Buy a game and add a small pack of cash for stuff that. I understand that people make cruel choices during the war, but irrationality like this is just to make the soviets look cruel, as I think. Keep saying that I'm filled with propaganda. Well, what a ♥♥♥♥ up it became in result. I didn't see it myself, but everyone said that this thing would be historically accurate. Why the hell not? And of course, the whole fight was just to put a flag over the "abandoned" german building. Of course soviet soldiers all as one used to burn down their own people alive just, well. Of course it's "General Winter" who, as the developers think, have been the primary force that made the nazis retreat. As it seems, the Red Army didn't achieve much in the campaign by their and their allies' forces. Do not be confused by my amount of time played, the review is actually based on a few other reviews, so instead of playing the campaign I decided to saved those hours of my life to do something more useful than witnessing irrational actions by soviet people in this game that seemingly, as one good man said, "really wanted to lose in this war". Yes, I'm another guy that doesn't like the soviet campaign. A little review of a guy who is not russian but still "filled with their propaganda", as some of the reviewers have noticed. ☐ The game itself is a big terrarium for bugsĪight, checking out the english reviews of this game was probably a mistake, but nonetheless I did it. ☐ Only if u care about leaderboards/ranks
